Gökhan Kaya’s fourth film, The Trial of a Movie, was completed in 2017. The film chronicles the process of Gökhan, a cinema student, debating whether or not to share his film on the internet. Suspecting that sharing a politically charged film online might cause trouble, his family shares their concerns. However, they are unaware that they are being recorded on video. The entire film was shot with a hidden camera.

The Trial of a Movie received the “Best Graduation Project of the Year” award at the Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts, where the director completed his undergraduate studies. Furthermore, it was one of the 5 films nominated for “Best Short Film of the Year” at the 51st Cinema Writers Association (SİYAD) Awards held in 2019. It also won the Special Jury Prize at the Marmaris International Short Film Festival.
